Update Oct. 2016
With the release of iOS 10 this is no longer necessary. Open
Settings > Music and check
I figured this out by accident and I couldn’t find any other articles describing this method, so here’s a quick blog post describing what I did to have my iPhone automatically make all Apple Music songs I add to my library available offline.
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and create a new smart playlist.
Add a single rule which checks if the
iCloud Status is equal to
Apple Music and make sure
Live updating is checked.
Save the playlist and wait for it to sync and show up on your iOS device.
Now all you have to do is select the playlist, tap the menu button (the three dots) and tap
Make Available Offline. Your device will immediately start downloading all songs in the playlist. Any songs you add to your library will automatically become part of this playlist and because of that they will also automatically be made available offline. 😄
